I've observed that when students sign up to a mage for mentoring, they leave the mage after five years, believing that they already know everything they should ever know--and, in some cases, even believing that they know more than their mentor does--when the reality is that it takes a lifetime to learn everything from a single mage, and that the mage himself is in the complex and continuous process of discovery.
