Caught the nth replay of the remake of _Ben-Hur_ on HBO. Actually it is not a remake, it is a deconstruction. I was able to appreciate it fully, but must warn others with biased expectations that:
1) It plays down anything supernatural or "miraculous". It is mainly about the brotherhood of two men.
2) It is digital and employs drones. Hence, some of the angles are unusual.
3) Its protagonists are "nobodies". The employment of the star system was not considered in casting.
4) Many scenes were protracted and embellished with additional dialogue.
5) It is not a "Lenten movie", the kind that some people tend to worship, conveniently forgetting that most "Lenten movies" were created in Hollywood.
6) It completely avoids anything that is melodrama. Just when a scene is about to get emotional, it suddenly pulls back.
